Former governors Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame, who were granted a presidential pardon by President Muhammadu Buhari a few months back, have finally been released by the authorities of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
Nyame, a former governor of Taraba State, and Nyame, an erstwhile governor of Plateau State, were serving separate prison terms for fraud until they were granted the controversial pardon by Buhari, a development that received a lot of negative reactions.

Nyame was serving a 12-year jail sentence for diverting ₦1.64 billion during his tenure as governor of Taraba, while Dariye was serving 10 years in prison for ₦1.126 billion fraud.
Recall that the Council of State, led by President Muhammadu Buhari, had in April approved the pardon of 159 convicts, including the two former governors.
The two former governors, who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, were convicted by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the Abuja High Court in 2018.
