Atiku support group urge Nigerians to vote efficient, reliable leader in 2023

Ahead of 2023 geneal election, Atikulated Global Movement (AGM) have called on Nigerians to ensure that an efficient and reliable candidate is elected to lead the country in the next election.
The chief global convener of the group which comprises of hundreds of aspirants, Hon Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA) in a statement made available to southwest-frontier.com, said the country could not afford to experience what it is through under the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for another four years.

BASA said the best and only alternative Nigeria has to address the chronic poverty that it is witnessing under the present government is to vote the waziri of Adamawa His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, who was a former vice president and successful businessman to take over the mantle of leadership next in 2023.

While the Nigerian Chief convener, Hon Princess Nikky Onyeri said the country deserves qualitative leadership in 2023. Hon Nikky Onyeri futher stated that the only means the country could remain united and witness progress is to remove the incumbent president through the ballot next year and vote for credible candidate.

The 2019 Governorship candidate in Oyo state and grassroot mobilizer, Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu added that Nigerians should not fall for the fake promises of the ruling party again in 2023. She said APC deceived the electorate in 2015 and 2019 respectively to earn their trust but later failed to fulfill any of those promises.

Princess Nikky Onyeri who's also an aspirant for the Orunmba North and South federal house of representatives in Anambra state added that; A true leader must have the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others, which is absent in the present situation but Atiku is a consummate humanist, a unifier, a pathfinder, and an indefatigable defender of democracy and constitutionalism, who will definitely fit into the role of fixing the county.”
“He is also a great leader, with the philosophy of creating jobs across all sectors, enhancing and advancing qualitative education, and motivating the citizenry in his golden crusade to get Nigeria working again!” Princess Onyeri said.

Bolanle  Sarumi-Aliyu stated that a vote for Atiku to become president would be for an all-inclusive government that would unite the country and bring the citizenry out of penury through mass employment, wealth creation and genuine restructuring for a better Nigeria.

According to the Her, “Nigerians have a choice to make in 2023. We can save ourselves from another years of APC administration by voting for the person who can make it work again in the person of the Waziri of Adamawa Atiku Abubakar, who has a coherent and comprehensive policy combined with good leadership skills.”

2023: INEC agrees to extend voter registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may deploy additional machines and ad hoc staff following a request by the House of Representatives to extend the deadline for voters registration.

Rep Aisha Duku, Chairman, House Committee on INEC, said this while addressing the House on the outcome of its meeting with INEC during plenary on Wednesday in Abuja.

The House of Reps had on June 15 directed that the committee should meet with the electoral umpire following a motion by Rep. Benjamin Kalu (APC-Abia).

The House urged INEC to extend the voter registration by 60 days.

Recall that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) was earlier scheduled to end on June 30.

Duku in her submission, said the electoral umpire agreed on all its resolutions, including the extension of voters registration.

She added that INEC told the committee that the registration days would now include weekends with additional hands to ensure a smooth exercise.

According to her, all the prayers contained in the motions were approved.

In his motion, Kalu said in April, INEC declared that about 42 per cent of the voter registrations recorded since the commencement of CVR on 28 June, 2021, were invalid with about 20 million unclaimed Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

He added that the large number of unregistered eligible voters, willing to be registered as evidenced by crowd seen at various registration centres, had resulted in congestion.

Kalu stated that if nothing was done to improve the shortage of voter registration equipment, and extend the deadline for voters registration, millions of Nigerians would be disenfranchised, which would jeopardise the integrity of the 2023 general elections.

As part of its resolution, the house, therefore mandated the Committee on Electoral Matters to engage INEC, to examine and proffer solutions to the shortage of registration machines and manpower.

The House also urged INEC to deploy an additional 30 voters registration machines in each local government area, train and deploy ad hoc staff to improve the shortage of manpower at registration centres.

The House resolved that security should also be provided for the staff and report back within two weeks.

No Going Back On Yoruba Nation Agitation, Sunday Igboho Insists, Reveals Next Action

Embattled YORUBA Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, fondly called Sunday Igboho, has insisted that there is no going back on his demand for the actualisation of a separate country for the Yoruba in Nigeria.

Igboho spoke in a video released on Sunday, to celebrate the birthday of the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Ogbomosho, in Oyo State, Oba Francis Alao.

Speaking in the video, Igboho urged the Olugbon to discuss with other traditional leaders in the South-West to stop conferring traditional titles on unqualified persons.

The Yoruba agitator said: “I salute my father, Olugbon, on his birthday celebration today in Oyo State. Kabiyesi, you will live many years on earth in health and peace,” he said in Yoruba.

“I want to use this opportunity to advise you, sir, though I’m not worthy of advising you. I want to use this opportunity to explain that I wouldn’t want you to toe the path of other monarchs who are giving Yorubaland chieftaincy titles to unqualified persons.

“Our people are being killed across the country while they are giving chieftaincy titles to unqualified persons and it is not supposed to be so. Unqualified persons are been crowned with traditional titles.

“Kabiyesi, you will live longer. Please advise these kings that what they have done is not good because when Yoruba people get angry, things will be difficult. Please, use the occasion of your birthday to tell those traditional rulers to stop, it is very bad.”

According to Vanguard report, on Saturday, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State and his wife, Hafsat, were decorated as the Aare Fiwajoye and Yeye Aare Fiwajoye of Ibadanland, in Ibadan.

The development stirred mixed reactions as some people faulted the decision of the Olubadan.

Reacting to reports that he has abandoned the agitation for the Yoruba nation, Igboho dismissed the reports, while urging South-West monarchs to support the Yoruba nation movement.

He said: “I, Sunday Adeyemo and all those who are following me on the issue of Yoruba Nation, there is no going back for us. There are talks around that we have stopped clamouring for Yoruba nation that is not true, it is an unconfirmed rumour. We want Yoruba Nation; we want to be free from slavery because what God has given us on our land is enough to feed us.

“I want the Yoruba monarchs to call a meeting, come together, you can see how our people are being killed everywhere, this is not good. Please come together and support us, may you live long. Yoruba Nation, no going back.”

‘Buhari prepared to use federal might to rig election for Tinubu – Omokri Alleges

Reno Omokri, a socio-political activist, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari-administration of plotting to use Federal might to rig the presidential election in favour of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Omokri was reacting to Tinubu’s use of the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State.

He noted that it was unethical for the Nigerian Air Force to allow Tinubu’s jet to use the presidential wing of the airport.

In a series of tweets, Omokri explained that Tinubu is not Nigeria’s president nor does he represents the Federal Government and as such had no right to use the presidential wing.

According to Omokri: “Why would the Nigerian Airforce allow Bola Tinubu land in the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport?

“That is wrong, almost to the point of treason! It proves that the Buhari government is prepared to use federal might to rig him into power!
“Allowing Tinubu land in the Presidential wing is unethical. The man is not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces.

“Presidents Obasanjo, Yar’adua and Jonathan never did that. This reduces our Airforce in the estimation of right-thinking members of the public!

“Tinubu is a citizen like any other. The Presidential wings of Nigeria’s airports are for the use of the President, and those representing the FG.

“Tinubu does not fall into that category. The Nigerian Airforce must not allow itself to become Tinubu and APC’s poodle!”

2023: It's Embarrassing for me to serve as Peter Obi's Deputy - Kwankwaso

....Kwankwaso won’t serve as Peter Obi’s running mate — NNPP
NNPP has dismissed reports that its Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Could be running mate to Mr Peter Obi.

The party described the Idea of Kwankwaso being Obi's deputy as embarrassing .

Peter Obi will do well as Minister of Economy, He doesn’t have the structure to become President - Ned Nwoko

Nwoko also stated in the interview with BBC Igbo, that he would like Peter Obi to come back to the Peoples Democratic Party as he will do well as a Minister of Economy and will also help the economy bounce back.
The Delta-born politician further averred that though Peter Obi is popular and might have a support base, he doesn't have the structure to function as he would need the majority in either house of reps or senate, state house of assemblies and government.

He also said that all of these might take at least 8 years to be achieved. Nwoko further claimed there are many things that would work against the emergence of Peter Obi as President of Nigeria and "it would never happen".

Nwoko also said that Igbos are not ready for presidency as that would have shown during the primaries. He also wondered why delegates never supported Igbo candidates, but went for candidates from other regions.

According to him, Igbos are largely selfish and won't think about others. Nwoko added that he doesn't subscribe to zoning, but believes in merit.

BREAKING: 2023: Court stops INEC from ending voter registration

The Federal High Court in Abuja has stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from ending voter registration on June 30, 2022.

Honourable Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon (Court 10) on Monday granted an order of interim injunction following the hearing of an argument on motion exparte by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, disclosed this in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST today.

SERAP and 185 concerned Nigerians had early this month filed the lawsuit against INEC, asking the court to “declare unconstitutional, illegal, and incompatible with international standards the failure of the electoral body to extend the deadline for voter registration to allow eligible Nigerians to exercise their rights.”

In the suit, SERAP had asked the court for “an order restraining INEC, its agents, privies, assigns, or any other person(s) claiming through it from discontinuing the continuous voters’ registration exercise from the June 30 2022 or any other date pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The suit is adjourned to June 29, 2022, for the hearing of the Motion on Notice for interlocutory injunction.

The suit followed the decision by INEC to extend the deadline for the conduct of primaries by political parties by 6 days, from June 3 to June 9.

In the suit number FHC/L/CS/1034/2022 filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos, and transferred to Abuja, SERAP is seeking the court to determine “whether the failure of INEC to extend the deadline for voter registration isn’t a violation of Nigerian Constitution, 1999 [as amended], the Electoral Act, and international standards.”

The organization is also asking the court for “an order of mandamus to direct and compel INEC to extend voter registration by a minimum of three months and take effective measures to ensure that eligible Nigerians are able to register to exercise their right to vote in the 2023 general elections.”

Bayelsa Govt breaks silence on total blackout

Bayelsa State Government has offered reasons for the recent power outage witnessed in Yenagoa, the city capital and other parts of the State.

The State government said it was as a result of a disagreement between the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) and Ahoada Youths, resulting into the switching-off of the Ahoada Transmission Substation and cut in power supply to the State.

OYO FRONTIER gathered that for some weeks now, the State capital has witnessed total blackout, apart from the Suburbs where SHELL and other means are distributing power.

The State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ayibaina Duba made the disclosure in a statement in Yenagoa at the weekend.

Hon. Ayibaina Duba disclosed that a team comprising the State Ministry of Power, Bayelsa Electricity Company Limited, in collaboration with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company is already engaging the TCN to ensure the restoration of power supply to the State.

According to the Commissioner, the team is also working on appropriate measures to prevent future occurrence.

While appealing for the understanding of the public and power consumers in the State, as all efforts were being explored to restore power supply, Hon Duba alerted the public that there have been pockets of vandalisation of electrical installations by some unscrupulous elements in the State and called on communities to be vigilant and report any act of sabotage of power facilities in their environment.

Ekiti guber: We can’t stop vote-buying – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the commission cannot guarantee absence of vote-buying during the June 18 Ekiti governorship election.

Mr Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner, disclosed this to Channels TV on Friday.

Okoye explained that INEC had already partnered with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to tackle voter inducement.

He added that INEC had trained ad hoc staff who would assist the electoral body on the best way to position the voting cubicles to guarantee and maintain the security of the votes.

“INEC as a commission cannot guarantee that there won’t be any vote-buying in this election.

“We have also told them (ad hoc staff) to advise the voters when they come to vote not to enter the voting compartment with any electronic gadgets that can take photographs.

“By so doing, we believe we can guarantee at least the secrecy of the vote, not that people will vote, snap them when they have voted and show somebody else,” Okoye said.

He added, “We have also held a series of meetings with the ICPC, EFCC, and other security agencies who would have some of their plainclothes officers at some of the polling units by making sure no one comes to the place and corrupts the process.”

According to Okoye, 988,923 are expected to vote in Saturday’s governorship poll in the 16 LGAs and 177 registration areas.

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are the leading contenders in Saturday’s election.

PDP: Again, Okowa beats Wike in supremacy battle

Since 2019, governors Nyesom Wike and Ifeanyi Okowa have been engaging in a supremacy battle within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

On Thursday, Okowa edged Wike out to clinch the Vice Presidential ticket of the PDP despite the earlier endorsement by the National Working Committee of the PDP.

The NWC had reportedly picked Wike as the perfect candidate to balance the ticket. However, Atiku Abubakar opted for the quiet Okowa against the boisterous Wike.

Although Governor Wike had publicly stated that he is not willing to settle for vice president, however, the process adopted in selecting a running mate to Atiku created some sort of competition, and once again, Okowa won.

This is not the first time he will be winning against Wike.

Okowa is the quiet operator, an opposite personality to the loud Wike. But both are strategically important to the PDP.

The two are governing oil-rich States and strong in terms of good voting strength.

Reps Minority Leader Tussle

In the post-2015, for the first time, the PDP found itself as an opposition party, Wike emerged as one of the pillars of the opposition party. Many believed that he also played a significant role in financing the party.

In 2017, he backed Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the party against other candidates for the same position.

Again, in 2019, Governor Wike also backed Kingsly Chinda, an Ikwerre man from Rivers as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

Secondus forwarded Chinda’s name, alongside others as principal officers for minority parties in the House to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

The letter was jettisoned by Gbajabiamila, who read another letter from the Minority Caucus of the House. In the letter, Ndudi Elumelu was announced as the Minority leader of the House.

Elumelu from Delta State is an ally of Okowa. Also, Toby Okechukwu, who emerged as Deputy Minority Leader is the godson of Ike Ekweremadu.

Subsequently, the PDP NWC suspended Ndudi and 6 others for insubordination, while a committee headed by Iyorcha Ayu was set up to investigate the matter.

Reacting to the development, Governor Wike had accused the committee of being corrupt.

“The Committee set up by the PDP on the illegal emergence of Ndudi Elumelu is the most corrupt committee ever set up by the party. We thank our son, Austin Opara, for withdrawing from that committee, so that he is not entangled in the illegal activities of the tainted committee.

“We are warning PDP to be careful not to toy with Rivers State. Rivers State has all it takes to withstand the PDP and fight the party to a standstill. “The Rivers State governor is not one of those Governors that will kowtow to their illicit activities. The Rivers State governor is not one of those governors that anyone can cajole,” he noted.

A member of the House had informed DAILY POST that the lawmakers opted for Elumelu because they were tired of the overbearing nature of Wike.

Ifeanyi supports Atiku

Governor Wike had based his entire campaign for the PDP presidential ticket on fighting for power shift to the south. In doing so, he urged all PDP governors in the south to back him.

Sources within the PDP revealed that Okowa covertly worked with others to undermine Wike.

“Some of the leaders in the south did not see him (Wike) as a candidate that could win the presidential election, they had to make hard choices. As it stands, one of those that opposed Wike has now benefitted from it,” the source said.

After the primary, Wike attacked some of the governors from the south for putting their ambition ahead of the agenda of the region.

“Look at a region ganged up, then you, your own region, cannot gang up. You became tools to be used against the interest of your people, and you think you have won, you have lost.

“You will continue to be perpetual slaves. Rivers people you don’t need to bother yourselves. PDP needs us. If they say they don’t need us, they should wait,” he said.

This victory by Okowa is the latest in the long cold battle with Wike.

BREAKING: Catholics banned from attending Fr. Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry

The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Bishop Calistus Onaga has imposed a ban on Rev. Fr. Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry.

OYO FRONTIER reports that this is coming on the heels of Mbaka’s outburst against a Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

In a letter he personally signed, addressed to ‘All the Clery, Religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu’, Bishop Onaga banned them from having anything to do with the Adoration Ministry.

He said in the letter that Mbaka having refused to heed to the Church’s persistent directives, “and in fulfillment of my pastoral duties as the Chief Shepherd”, “I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending all religious and liturgical activities of the Cathooic Adoration Ministry until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded.”

While noting that his decision was based on the fact that Mbaka’s teaching and utterances were not consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church, he enjoined “all Christian faithful to keep praying for Fr. Mbaka.”

Rufai was also said to have submitted fraudulent pandemic unemployment claims in at least 17 other states including Hawaii, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, and Pennsylvania.

“Rufai also defrauded the Small Business Administration (SBA) by attempting to obtain Economic Injury Disaster loans (EIDL) tied to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Between April 8, 2020, and June 26, 2020, he submitted 19 fraudulent EIDL applications.  SBA paid out $10,000 based on the applications,” the statement reads.

“Between 2017 and 2020, Rufai attempted to obtain more than $1.7 million in IRS tax refunds by submitting 675 false claims.  The IRS paid out $90,877 on these claims.

“Rufai’s efforts to enrich himself with false disaster claims did not start with COVID-19.  In September and October 2017, he submitted 49 disaster relief claims connected to Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.  He filed $24,500 in false claims and was paid on 13 claims totaling $6,500.”

The US authorities said Rufai has agreed to make full restitution to the defrauded agencies.

Rufai faces up to 32 years in prison for wire fraud related to a presidentially declared disaster and aggravated identity theft but the US justice department said prosecutors have agreed to recommend no more than 71 months in prison.

INEC deadline: Tinubu submits Masari’s name as running mate

As part of the plan to beat the Friday June 17 deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to political parties to submit the names of presidential candidates and their running mates, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Kabir Ibrahim Masari.

It was, however, gathered that the name of Masari, who hails from the home State of President Muhammadu Buhari, would later be changed after the party stakeholders must have agreed on the suitable vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

A party source confirmed to NEWSMEN that it was true that Tinubu has submitted the name of his running mate, but added that “consultation is still ongoing”

It was further gathered that the move by Tinubu and the ruling party was to meet the statutory requirement and beat the deadline set by the electoral umpire.

However, Tinubu will today meet President Muhammadu Buhari as consultation continues on the issue of his running mate.

There have been strong opposition against the issue of Muslim-Muslim ticket been mulled by the ruling party.

Though some names had been mentioned as possible running-mates to the former Lagos State governor, it was gathered that no compromise had been reached yet.

A source in the Tinubu’s camp told NEWSMEN that all the northern governors want the position.

The source added that if Tinubu has his way, he would have loved to pick the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima as his running-mate, but he wanted the president and the governors to pick.

The source said: “All northern governors want it. If Asiwaju has his way, it will be Senator Kashim. But he wants the president and governors to pick for him.”

Asked why Tinubu does not want to pick his running mate himself, the source stressed he didn’t want to be a ‘winner takes it all.’

“He does not want to be the winner takes it all. You need to respect the President. PMB did not choose a VP for himself in 2015,” the source said.

One of the leaders of Tinubu Support Group, Hon. James Faleke was at the party secretariat yesterday, but his mission was not known.

But the source confirmed that Faleke was at the party secretariat yesterday to collect INEC’s form for the presidential and vice presidential candidates to be filled.

Asked if Faleke was there to submit the name of the running mate to Tinubu, the source insisted that no compromise had been reached in the issue of running mate.

“When the decision is made, it would be made known to all and the decision would be made tomorrow (today),” he added.
